Ramakanth Vemuluri M.D., MRCPsych, FAPA.
Dr. Ramakanth Vemuluri (Dr. Ram) has been in Montgomery since 2011. After graduating from medical school in India he moved to Scotland where he completed his training in psychiatry. He obtained Membership in the Royal College of Psychiatrists in London and moved to London where he worked as a consultant doing research before moving to America. He completed a psychiatry residency through the joint program of Creighton University and University of Nebraska. He has been practicing in the field of psychiatry since 2000. Dr. Ram is Board Certified in Psychiatry and a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
Dr. Ram devotes most of his time to his outpatient practice. However, he also provides consultation to patients on medical and surgical floors, performs second opinion evaluations, sees patients in community psychiatry (group homes and nursing homes), and practices inpatient psychiatry as time permits. Dr. Ram treats and manages depression, anxiety, panic, attention problems, sleep issues, PTSD, OCD, anger issues, psychotic disorders, personality problems, dementia and other psychiatric disorders. Dr. Ram specializes in treating people with substance use disorders (addiction). The majority of his patient population includes adult and geriatric age groups.
Dr. Ram specializes in psychopharmacology and enjoys providing eclectic and integrated psychotherapeutic interventions during his sessions. He strongly believes in mental wellbeing of individuals. He strives hard to achieve this by working collaboratively with his patients, their families and other providers involved in the care of his patients. Outside of his work, he likes to read philosophy and watch movies. He enjoys spending time with his family and friends.
Katie McKeen, LPC, NCC, Registered Play Therapist Supervisor
Katie graduated from Auburn University at Montgomery with a Master's Degree in Counseling and Development. She has been counseling children, adolescents, and their families for over 20 years.
Katie will see children, adolescents, and adults diagnosed with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorders; Anxiety Disorders; Depression; and Learning Disabilities; Dyslexia, as well as other types of school difficulties. She will also see adults and families' experiencing transitional issues such as bereavement and divorce. Katie's specialties include: play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, behavioral management and parent training, working with victims of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse, and working with victims of domestic violence. Katie's approach to counseling is personalized and she uses a variety of techniques that are tailored to the individual or family's needs.
Katie is originally from Mobile, AL, but has been a resident of Montgomery since 2001. She is married to Kirk and loves spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoys watching movies and spending time with her beloved pets.
Elizabeth Robinson, LICSW
Liz graduated from Samford University with a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and the University of Alabama with a Master of Social Work. She is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, and she has professional experience in child and family services and vocational rehabilitation. She also teaches as an adjunct instructor in Social Work department at Troy University. Liz joined River Region Psychiatry in 2019 as a therapist, and she works with individuals, couples, and families across the lifespan.
Lisa Elliott, MA, MPC-S, NCC, Registered Play Therapist Supervisor
Lisa Elliott, MA, NCC, LPC-S, Registered Play Therapist Supervisor, is a board certified counselor and current doctoral candidate at Walden University for her PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision. She is a 2003 graduate of The University of Alabama with a Master’s Degree in Community Counseling and works with adults, children, and families with diverse issues. Lisa offers an individualized approach to counseling with areas of specialization including: play therapy, crisis and trauma, critical incident response and EAP and workplace issues, CBT, behavioral management, depression, anxiety, military families, PTSD, family/couples, working with families who have children with special needs, divorce adjustment and bereavement.
For over 15 years Lisa has remained active in service to her community in a variety of ways including responding to local and national disasters, consulting and supervision, professional and community presentations, and service on professional boards. In response to her efforts to remain active in the community and in the counseling profession, Lisa has received service awards from the Alabama Association for Play Therapy and The Adjutant General of the Alabama National Guard.
Rebecca Jacobson, PhD, LPC-S, NCC, Registered Play Therapist Supervisor
Dr. Rebecca Jacobson has a broad background in counseling and psychology. She obtained a Bachelor and Master of Arts Degree in Psychology from Auburn University in Montgomery, and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Educational Psychology from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. She taught in the Counseling & Psychology department at Troy University for 15 years. She continued her Education post Doc and became a licensed Counselor in the State of Alabama and received her credentials as a Registered Play Therapist. She had a private practice for 10 years that focused on clients who had experienced traumatic loss, grief and other types of trauma. She also has extensive experience working with military clients, has several published works and continues to provide presentations for the Counseling community. She enjoys working with children, families and older adults using solution focused therapy and play therapy techniques. When she is not counseling, speaking, or writing, she enjoys time spent with her family and traveling both Nationally and Internationally.
Kristy Savage, Practice Manager
Kristy Savage relocated to Deatsville Alabama in 2017 from Phenix City Alabama. Before she relocated she worked in hospital settings along with small and large provider offices where she has worked in every department. Kristy received her Associates Degree in Accounting from Chattahoochee Valley Community College in Phenix City and then moved on to Columbus State University in Columbus Georgia where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing. Kristy joined River Region Psychiatry in 2017 bringing with her over twenty years of office/managerial experience and an eagerness to grow.
Kunal B. Tank, MD
Dr. Tank is a board-certified Psychiatrist and focuses on mostly general adult psychiatry including geriatric patient population. Originally from India, Dr. Tank completed his residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine and Medical Center Psychiatry Department in 2014. Specifically, he is proficient in helping patients with treatment-resistant depression (TRD), Substance Use Disorders, psychotic disorders, various anxiety disorders including social anxiety, PTSD and OCD. Dr. Tank has taken close interest in certain areas of psychiatry and likes working with patients with Adult Neuro-Developmental disorders (adults with Autism spectrum disorder, Intellectual disorder), reproductive psychiatry (pregnancy and post-partum mental health problems), and consultation liaison Psychiatry. Dr. Tank works thoroughly with other medical providers to provide evaluation for medical procedures (Transplant, pain pump – stimulator, bariatric surgery and other complex medical procedures) in clinical setting and on med-surg floors for acute mental health issues. Dr. Tank works closely with each patient to determine if medication changes and the integration of a variety of psychotherapy options, including behavior and lifestyle modifications.
Dr. Tank is a member of the American, Alabama Psychiatry Association and American Medical Association. Dr. Tank recently moved to Montgomery in 2018 to be close with friends and family and enjoys Travelling and socializing with family and friends.
